Many people are not aware that a garbage disposal can be rested. This is an important tip for you to know if you have ever had problems with your garbage disposal and wanted to find out how to fix it. Resting the garbage disposal will push all of the food down into the drain, so there won’t be any more clogs!
LOCATION OF THE DISPOSER RESET BUTTON
Typically, the disposal reset button is located on the bottom or lower back side of the unit. This red button typically has a small hole in it for you to press and hold down while turning the power back on.
If your garbage disposer does not have this specific type of button, then there might be two buttons that will need to be pressed simultaneously. One should say “reset” or “clear,” and the other may simply just state OFF/ON depending on what kind of system you are using.
RESET THE GARBAGE DISPOSER
- To reset a garbage disposal, first unplug it from its outlet or turn off the circuit breaker as well if applicable (optional). Next, Make sure disposal switch is in the “OFF” position
- Press down all around the garbage disposer reset button (again, typically located in either lower area)
- Turn on the cold water and turn the disposal switch to “ON”. The disposal should start working again.
- If the reset button does not stay in or if you have to keep turning on and off the breaker, then your garbage disposal may need service or a new one.
